I am an interior designer and visual merchandiser based in NYC for over 8 years. I love the way design can be used to affect emotions; to bring calm after a long day, to bring excitement to a gathering, to bring people together. There is nothing more rewarding to me than walking into a space, seeing the possibilities that live there and then turning it into a reality. I can't say that I have a favorite design style. Who wants to choose between the clean streamlined look of Mid-Century Modern and the elegant detail of Federalist? Not me--and thankfully I don't have to. The "Christine Schwalm style" is flexible, liveable and purposeful. Whether that means Eames or Phyfe is up to you.
Why hire an interior designer? Put it this way, I could probably figure out how to do my taxes each year, but the risk of making a very big, very expensive mistake is much higher than if I hired a professional to do it for me. And while there's no such thing as a "design audit," the risk of making an expensive mistake is much greater than if you allow me to handle it for you. You do what you do. I'll give you a beautiful place to come home to.
